Essential Oils
An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile chemical compounds from plants.
Essential oils are also referred to as volatile oils, ethereal oils, aetheroleum, or simply as the oil of the plant from which they were extracted, like oil of clove.
An essential oil is called essential because it captures the essence of the plant’s fragrance, representing the characteristic scent of the plant it comes from.
Essential oils are commonly obtained through distillation, steam being a frequently used method. Other extraction techniques include expression, solvent extraction, sfumatura, absolute oil extraction, resin tapping, wax embedding, and cold pressing.
These oils find wide application in perfumes, cosmetics, soaps, air fresheners, and various other products. Additionally, they are employed for flavoring food and beverages, as well as for imparting scents to incense and household cleaning items.
While essential oils are commonly used in aromatherapy for potential relaxation benefits, it is important to note that there is limited scientific evidence supporting their effectiveness in treating specific conditions.
Improper usage of these oils can lead to adverse reactions such as allergies, skin irritation, and inflammation.
It is crucial to exercise caution, especially with children, as ingestion or absorption of essential oils can be toxic.
We supply essential oils for use in cosmetics. As such we do not provide information or warnings about their topical or therapeutic uses.
If you intend to use our essential oils for any purpose other than as a cosmetic ingredient, please seek professional advice for the relevant information; particularly with regard to safety, prior to use and ensure that your products are labelled correctly based on their intended use.
