About Essential Oils

Essential oils are concentrated aromatic materials obtained from plants. They capture many of the volatile compounds responsible for the characteristic scent of flowers, leaves, woods, roots, herbs, spices and citrus fruits.

Extraction and Character

Most essential oils are produced by steam distillation, while citrus oils are often obtained through expression or cold pressing. The extraction method, plant variety, growing conditions and harvest can all influence the aroma and composition of the finished oil.

Using Essential Oils in Formulation

Essential oils bring natural complexity, texture and botanical character to perfumes and cosmetic formulations. As naturally variable materials, their scent and composition may differ slightly between batches.

Natural does not automatically mean risk-free. Essential oils may contain allergens, sensitising compounds or constituents requiring restricted usage levels. Always review the product description and available safety, allergen and technical documentation before formulation.

Intended Use

Our essential oils are supplied as ingredients for cosmetic and perfumery formulation. They are not supplied for ingestion or therapeutic use. If you intend to use a material for another purpose, seek appropriately qualified advice and ensure your finished product is assessed, used and labelled correctly for its intended market.

Some materials are supplied in dilution. Please check the concentration and product description carefully. If a material is unfamiliar, we recommend starting with the smallest available size.
