Menthe Arvensis DMO India (Astier)
Cornmint EO (50% Menthol)
Menthe Arvensis DMO, derived from the plant Mentha Arvensis that is native to India, also known as wild mint, field mint, or corn mint.
Cornmint stands out as the mint species with the highest concentration of menthol among the five genuine varieties and it is the Cornmint variation that is on offer here, containing a 50% menthol content.
These indigenous species readily interbreed in close proximity. Originating from North America, Cornmint has seen its primary production surpassed by India.
The essential oil extracted through steam distillation of its flower clusters finds application in both medicine and perfumery, prized for its delightful, zesty, and invigorating fragrance.
It has a powerful fresh and sweet peppermint aroma.
Mentha arvensis is a perennial herb adorned with delicate hairs. Its square stems support oval leaves with serrated margins, while clusters of small lilac blossoms adorn the apex of its stems.
This indigenous plant thrives in meadows and on the fringes of wetlands across India, it is cultivated on small-scale plots not exceeding one hectare.
Harvesting involves manual techniques using sickles, followed by air drying before conveyance to distilleries for steam distillation.
Subsequent dementholation occurs through freezing due to the high menthol content, causing it to crystallize at room temperature.
The high menthol content in the plant causes it to precipitate at room temperature.
Mentha arvensis, similar to peppermint, undergoes a cooling process that results in the crystallization of menthol, aiding in the clarification of the essential oil.
Even after this procedure, the mint essential oil maintains 50% of the molecule, thus preserving its refreshing minty quality.
It is often added to balms, creams and lotions for a cooling effect and used in aromatherapy for its refreshing, clearing scent.
It is common in chest rubs, inhalants, liniments and flavouring in toothpaste and mouthwash.
Caution must be taken when using this material; as even at 50%, it can irritate skin or mucous membranes if used undiluted.
