Benzoin is a resin obtained from the bark of trees in the genus Styrax, especially Styrax Benzoin, found in Southeast Asia.

It is a popular ingredient used in perfumery to create amber-like fragrances.

It has a rich, warm, sweet, and balsamic scent that is often described as vanilla-like with a hint of spice and smoke, quite distinct from the vanilla-like odour of the Siam origin material.

This makes it an ideal base note in the creation of amber scents, which are typically characterised by their warm, resinous, and slightly woody qualities.
