Bergamot FCF EO Italian
Bergamot essential oil is a fragrant oil extracted from the rind of the bergamot orange (Citrus bergamia), a citrus fruit primarily grown in Italy.
It has a fresh, citrusy, slightly floral aroma and is widely used in aromatherapy, perfumery, and skincare.
Uses of Bergamot Essential Oil:
- Aromatherapy: Helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
- Skincare: Used in products to treat acne, oily skin, and minor wounds.
- Perfumery: A key ingredient in many perfumes and colognes.
- Flavoring: Gives Earl Grey tea its signature scent and taste.
What is Bergamot FCF?
Bergamot essential oil naturally contains furocoumarins, which can make the skin sensitive to sunlight. Bergamot ‘FCF’ (Furocoumarin Free) is a version of the oil where these compounds are removed to prevent photosensitivity.
Furocoumarins, particularly Bergapten, are compounds found in Bergamot oil that can cause photosensitivity, making the skin more susceptible to sunburn when exposed to sunlight.
To mitigate this, Furocoumarins are removed from the oil, resulting in Bergamot FCF, which is safer for topical applications.
This Furocoumarin-free version retains the characteristic sweet, citrusy aroma of traditional bergamot oil and is commonly used in perfumery and aromatherapy.
By removing the photosensitizing components, Bergamot FCF allows for broader use in skincare and personal care products without the associated risks of sun exposure.
In summary, Bergamot FCF is a refined form of bergamot essential oil that offers the aromatic benefits of the original oil while minimising the risk of skin sensitivity to sunlight.
