Birch Leaf Speciality
In the early 1980s, Roman Kaiser and his team at Givaudan undertook the task of recreating the distinct herbaceous fragrance that fills a traditional Scandinavian sauna when birch twigs are used for body beating.
Their efforts resulted in the creation of Birch Leaf Givco 166, a potent and diffusive base that has since gained widespread popularity in various successful fragrances, notably including Calvin Klein’s Escape for Men.
This base is the original itteration that is characterised as green, herbaceous, vegetal, and fresh. Givaudan have since reformulated this material as version 166/2
We have discovered that in addition to its airy and astringent verdant quality, it also exhibits hints of tea and spice, particularly reminiscent of cardamom and coriander seed.
