Leaf Alcohol

Not to be confused with Cis 3 Hexenyl Acetate, cis-3-Hexenol (also known as (Z)-3-hexen-1-ol) is a naturally occurring organic compound known for its fresh, green, grassy aroma.

It’s commonly referred to as leaf alcohol because it is a major component of the scent of freshly cut grass and leaves.

It is found in many plants and is part of a group of volatile compounds released when plant tissue is damaged.These compounds are often referred to as green leaf volatiles (GLVs).

Cis-3-hexenol and cis-3-hexenyl acetate are closely related compounds, but they differ in functional groups, odour profiles, and applications.
