Hercolyn DW

Hercolyn® DW aka Floralyn is primarily used as a valuable fixative and carrier ingredient.

Hercolyn DW previously from DRT and now under Firmenich, is a high-quality deodorised variant of hydrogenated pine resin.

It possesses a thick consistency and a light amber color.

It has a very low odour strength, but with a slight amber and balsam scent.

This substance serves as an excellent fixative and blending agent, with widespread applications in fragrances and bases.

In recent times, this material has gained huge popularity in Oud fragrances, as well as in richer masculine woody-amber and leather fragrances and is a valuable solvent for non-alcoholic fragrances, which are highly favoured in Arabian markets due to its high viscosity, which is particularly advantageous for enhancing richness and texture in dilutions.

Additionally, it serves as an effective blender and, like BB, DOA, and IPM, is a suitable solvent for candle fragrances. 

It is most suitable for enhancing pine scents, but can also be incorporated in small quantities in various non-floral and select floral fragrance categories.

However, it is important to exercise caution when excessively using Hercolyn as a diluent, as it can potentially pose solubility issues and affect compatibility with certain cosmetic raw materials in functional products.

Notably, this ingredient has played a key role in Guerlain’s recent endeavors to enhance and prolong IFRA-compliant oakmoss alongside Mastic Absolute, utilised in the reformulation of their iconic fragrance, Mitsouko.
