Maltol crystals are a natural compound known for their sweet, caramel-like aroma.

It is a flavor enhancer and is commonly found in various foods like baked goods, sweets, and roasted coffee, where it imparts a sweet, slightly toasty, and sugary scent and flavor.

In addition to its presence in nature, this material can also be synthetically produced.

It is a polyphenolic compound and is derived from sources like pine bark, linden trees, and fruit, especially apples.

In its crystalline form, it is typically white or off-white and is often used in the food and cosmetic industries to add sweetness or warmth to fragrances.

In perfumery, maltol is used as a fixative and is valued for its ability to bring a rich, sweet, and warm quality to fragrances, enhancing oriental, gourmand, and amber notes.

It can give a fragrance an almost baked-good or sugary undertone, reminiscent of toffee, vanilla, or brown sugar.

Can be difficult to keep in solution, so if material crystallises, simply place in a warm water bath and agitate to bring it back.

This material is not the same as Ethyl Maltol.
