Mate Absolute is extracted from the leaves of the Ilex paraguariensis shrub, commonly known as yerba mate—a plant native to South America and widely cultivated in southern Brazil and Argentina. 

The process involves extracting the aromatic compounds from the leaves using volatile solvents and then purifying the extract.

A popular South American beverage known as mate among indigenous communities in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and southern Brazil is made by brewing the dried leaves of the native yerba mate tree. This herbal tea is recognised for its ability to enhance mental focus and promote several health advantages.

Mate Absolute is a thick (almost solid) dark brown material with extreme tenacity, making it a highly desirable perfumery material.

It adds a unique fruity flavour to beverages and teas, with hints of hay, flowers, honey, and tobacco.

In perfumery however; it’s valued for its unique aromatic profile, offering tobacco, hay and green tea-like notes, but is always well marked with the tea effect.

• Adds a unique “green-tea-meets-tobacco” complexity.

• Works well in chypres, fougères, green compositions, gourmand teas and tobacco accords.

• Pairs beautifully with citrus, vetiver, guaiacwood, osmanthus and black tea notes.
