Exaltolide 10
An extremely fine and elegant musk. Exaltolide is one of the finest synthetic musk notes that possesses a very natural quality
Exaltolide adds roundness and depth to many creations and has a synergistic effect on the overall bouquet of a composition. It has an extremely sensual effect on the skin, not obtainable from other musks of the same category.
Arctander describes it like this: “Delicately animal, musky and sweet, extremely tenacious odor of outstanding uniformity. Its fixative effect is absolutely unusual in that it is not a physical fixation, but a true fixative and mellowing effect at incredibly low concentrateion of usage. The effect of perfumes containing this Lactone differ from others in the excellent wearability’ introduced by the Lactone. This is particularly conspicuous when the perfume is applied to the skin.” According to Philip Kraft, Exaltolide “is probably the commercial musk with the least side notes.” He therefore recommends using it as a benchmark for grasping the typical odor profile of musk odorants.
