Benzoin Resinoid Siam EO Laos Robertet

Benzoin Resinoid is an aromatic resin derived from the bark of the Styrax tonkinensis tree, primarily found in Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, with “Siam” historically referring to Thailand.

This variety sourced from Laos via Robertet is distinct from the Sumatra type, which comes from a different species (Styrax benzoin).

It is a thick, sticky, brownish resin; sometimes semi-solid or paste-like depending on extraction method and dilution. It is however typically solvent-extracted to produce a resinoid (as opposed to steam distillation, which would yield an essential oil).

Benzoin Siam Laos is a truly beautiful material that has a persistent balsamic, sweet, vanilla, spicy and cinnamon-like odour. This is far more refined and luxurious than our Benzoin Resinoid Siam EO Thailand

It is much richer and softer than Benzoin Sumatra, often described as more refined and less smoky.

In perfumery, it acts as a fixative and base note; often used in oriental, gourmand, and amber accords. In Aromatherapy it is calming and grounding, with stress-relief and mood-lifting properties.

Comparison to Benzoin Sumatra:

• Siam Benzoin: Sweeter, more vanillic, smoother.

• Sumatra Benzoin: Harsher, more cinnamic, and smokier.
