Spike Lavender EO Spain
Spike Lavender is a rounded, aromatic shrub that resembles true lavender but has distinct botanical features.
Its flowers are a paler shade of purple, and its velvety grey-green leaves are noticeably broader; earning it the nickname “broadleaf lavender”.
This plant grows wild in the temperate zones of the Mediterranean basin, particularly in Spain, the primary producer, and the South of France.
Unlike true lavender, spike lavender thrives at lower altitudes, up to 700 meters, and reproduces through naturally germinating seeds.
Because it is not cultivated, harvesters must traverse the dry, rugged landscapes of Spain to collect the flowering sprigs each August.
The resulting essential oil is herbaceous and rustic, with a strong camphor note reminiscent of its relative, hybrid lavender.
Spike Lavender oil blends well with Citrus, Floral, Spicy and Woody materials and compliments Patchoulol rich materials perfectly.
