Beta Pinene
Beta Pinene is a colorless liquid with a dry, woody, resinous, pine-like smell.
It is soluble in alcohol but not water and found naturally in various plants such as rosemary, parsley, dill, basil, and rose.
It is an important constituent of pine resin and other conifer resins, as well as being used in the chemical communication systems of many insects.
In the chemical industry, selective oxidation of pinene with specific catalysts yields components used in pharmacy and artificial odorants.
The primary oxidation product is Verbenone.
