Polysantol
Polysantol by Firmenich is an exquisitely refined sandalwood note, celebrated for its richness, radiance, and exceptional diffusion.
Crafted with precision, this remarkable material delivers a luxurious sandalwood signature of impressive strength and clarity, enveloping compositions in a smooth, continuous aura from the very first impression through to the lingering base.
Unlike natural sandalwood oil, Polysantol reveals a more polished and contemporary character—silky, subtly sweet, and elegantly rounded, with none of the dryness often associated with traditional extracts.
Its presence is both commanding and harmonious, seamlessly weaving through top, heart, and base notes to create a cohesive and enduring olfactory experience.
Chemically classified as a linear sesquiterpene alcohol, Polysantol is prized by perfumers for its substantivity and versatility.
It enhances longevity, amplifies diffusion, and imparts a soft, velvety fullness that elevates compositions across woody, floral, and oriental fragrance families.
In an era where natural sandalwood faces sustainability challenges due to overharvesting and cost, Polysantol stands as a sophisticated and responsible alternative.
It offers the beauty of sandalwood with consistency, ethical sourcing, and remarkable performance.
When compared to other sandalwood replacers, Polysantol distinguishes itself with its refined balance: softer and rounder than Ebanol, less spicy than Javanol, and more natural and luminous than Santaliff.
The result is a modern sandalwood material of unparalleled elegance—perfect for creating fragrances that are both timeless and contemporary.

Sandalwood accords must, not the Australian type , this helps with when trying to recreate Mysore Sandalwood accords. Even on its own its a powerhouse, not as strong or powerful as Javanol but just as great for a fraction of the cost of Javanol.

THIS IS MY FIRST OUT OF THE TOP 2: really great as a stand alone sandalwood note and quite noticeable too. None of this ‘ooh can you smell it or not’
It’s true what perfumers say. It does have a slightly higher impact than Javanol. Although I would also recommend Javanol in your arsenal if your crazy about sandalwood odourants
It’s also good in wax melts.
