Vetiverol is one of the main odour-active molecules found in Vetivert Java Oil, which comes from the roots of Chrysopogon zizanioides (Vetiver Grass).

It is a sesquiterpene alcohol (C₁₅H₂₆O) and exists in several isomeric forms (e.g., khusimol, isovalencenol, etc.) all contributing to the complex vetiver scent.

Botanically, the grass was originally classified under the genus Vetiveria, hence the reference to Vetiveria zizanioides (a name still widely used in perfumery and essential oils).

Later, taxonomists reclassified it into the genus Chrysopogon, so the correct modern name is Chrysopogon zizanioides.
